A working catalogue of who we are, where we live, and what we are slowly trying to build there.
We both work in information technology, leading something of a double life — Vienna during the week, the countryside at weekends.
The journal is a shared project. Each entry is signed by whoever wrote it — sometimes by the two of us.
Where we are slowly building a house to live in. A clearing on the south slope, with a kitchen garden walking distance from the back door, and the first orchard we ever planted.
A second piece of land, ten minutes' walk from the first. Old pine and beech up the slope, a south-facing meadow we are turning into a larger orchard, and the field where most of our vegetables grow.
To remember, mostly. The journal is the durable record of the decisions we made and why we made them — by week three of the build we had already started forgetting which weekend we'd poured the footings.
And to share what we can — the experience, the small joys, the slow figuring-out. There may be one or two readers in our position; if anything here saves them a wrong turn, or just brings a little of the same joy along, that's enough.
